    Material Engineering & Design Features

3M™ 8663 utilizes a high-performance polyurethane elastomer engineered to withstand harsh environmental exposure while maintaining flexibility and transparency. The durable film acts as a sacrificial protective layer that absorbs wear and erosion before damage can occur to the underlying substrate.

    Typical mechanical properties include:

    • Tensile Strength: 2049 N/100 mm (117 lb/in)
    • Elongation at Break: 500%
    • Peel Adhesion to Bare Aluminum: 92 N/100 mm (84 oz/in)
    • Peel Adhesion to Acrylic Enamel Paint: 61 N/100 mm (56 oz/in)
    • Peel Adhesion to ABS Plastic: 71 N/100 mm (65 oz/in)

The 8663 DL configuration incorporates dual removable liners, including a polyester top liner that increases stiffness during installation and serves as an application aid for complex geometries.

    Installation & Handling

    • Can be applied directly to painted or unpainted surfaces
    • Requires only simple installation tools
    • 8663 DL version includes dual liners to aid installation
    • Both liners are removed after final installation
    • Can be painted following approved painting procedures
    • Store rolls in original cartons when not in use
    • Return partially used rolls to original packaging after use

    Environmental & Compliance Notes

    • Contains no volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
    • Contains no hazardous air pollutants (HAPs)
    • 100% solids construction
