Overview
DOW CORNING Q4?2817 Fluorosilicone Sealant is a high?strength, one?part, ready?to?use fluorosilicone elastomer designed for demanding aerospace sealing applications. It cures at room temperature upon exposure to moisture to form a tough, rubbery solid that retains excellent properties in the presence of fuels, oils, solvents, moisture, and extreme temperatures. Q4?2817 is particularly suited for sealing aircraft fuel tanks and protecting surfaces exposed to fuel erosion and corrosion.

Features
- High strength retains properties under exposure to fuels, oils, and solvents
- Excellent adhesion and bond strength to most materials
- Resistant to weathering, moisture, ozone, and environmental stress
- Flexible over a wide temperature range: ?55? C to +260? C
- Easy to use one?part room temperature moisture cure
- Cures to a tough, rubbery solid without flow or slump
Typical Applications
- Bonding and sealing components exposed to solvents, oils, fuels, vibration, shock, moisture, and temperature extremes
- Fuel tank sealing designed for sealing aircraft fuel tanks and related assemblies
- Protecting surfaces exposed to erosion and corrosion from jet fuel and aviation environments
- Sealing and bonding in aerospace maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) work
Compatibility & Safety Notes
- Adheres well to most aerospace materials: glass, cured silicone rubber, cork, phenolic, polyester, epoxy, silicone resin laminates, and most metals including stainless steel, titanium, and aluminium
- May not adhere well to certain plastics, polyethylene, or materials that bleed plasticisers
- Should be applied to clean, dry surfaces for reliable bonding
- For maximum adhesion, recommendation is to use DOW CORNING 1200 Primer
How to Use
- Surface Preparation Clean surfaces with chlorinated solvent and abrasive pad/cloth ? rinse with acetone/MEK ? apply primer (if required) ? allow to dry at least 1?hour
- Application Product supplied in cartridges for handguns or power guns; extruded sealant does not flow/slump and can be tooled before skin?over
- Can be dispersed in methyl ethyl ketone and applied by brushing, dipping, or spraying
- As adhesive: apply 0.25 0.75?mm layer to one surface, mate parts under pressure for uniform contact
- Working & Cure Time Begins to cure on exposure to moisture; skins over within ~15?min at room conditions; 3?mm sections solidify in ~5?days; full cure over 14?days depending on thickness and confinement
Packaging & Procurement
- Available in 5.4?fl?oz cartridges (net weight)
- Usable life: 12?months from production when stored ?32? C in unopened container
- Keep tightly sealed when not in use to prevent premature cure
Why Q4?2817 is Chosen for AOG / MRO
- Retains physical properties and adhesion even after prolonged fuel and solvent exposure
- High elongation and flexibility help withstand thermal cycling and vibration
- Wide service temperature range with good weathering resistance
- One?part ease of application speeds maintenance operations
Practical Suggestions for Your Team (AOG Mindset)
- Always ensure surface preparation cleaner ? rinse ? primer (if required)
- Keep a stock of primers (e.g., Dow Corning 1200) and application guns for rapid response
- Tool the sealant while it s still tacky to achieve a uniform bead before skin?over
- Allow adequate cure time (especially on thick sections) where full mechanical properties are needed
