Overview
DeSoto® 513X390 Military Epoxy Primer is a conventional solids, two-component epoxy primer designed for aerospace aluminum and composite substrates prior to topcoat application. It provides excellent adhesion, corrosion protection, and fluid resistance while maintaining performance across a wide operating temperature range. The primer is qualified to military aerospace specifications and is compatible with high-performance polyurethane topcoat systems.

Material Engineering & Design Features
DeSoto® 513X390 is engineered as a high-performance epoxy primer system that combines corrosion protection with strong substrate adhesion. The formulation is designed for compatibility with aerospace polyurethane topcoats while maintaining resistance to aviation fluids and harsh operational environments.
The product is qualified to multiple aerospace and military specifications including:
- MIL-P-23377F Type I Class 1
- FMC 7715-01
- FMS-3027A
It is also compatible with topcoat systems meeting:
- DMS 2115
- MMS 420
- MIL-PRF-85285
Installation & Handling
- Thoroughly shake the base component before mixing
- Mix base and activator at a 1:1 volume ratio
- Maintain agitation for approximately 10 minutes during mixing
- Induction time required:
- 40 minutes at 13-21°C (55-70°F)
- 30 minutes at 22-28°C (71-84°F)
- 10 minutes above 29°C (85°F)
- Recommended application temperature: 15-30°C (59-86°F)
- Recommended relative humidity: 20-90%
- Apply using conventional or HVLP spray equipment
- Recommended dry film thickness: 15-23 microns in a single coat with 50% overlap
- Surface preparation should include approved aluminum conversion coating treatment conforming to MIL-C-5541 or equivalent
