    Information

    LOCTITE® SF 7414 Tamper-Proofing Paste

    Overview

LOCTITE® SF 7414 is a fast-drying tamper-proofing paste designed to provide a visual indication of movement, loosening, or unauthorized adjustment of mechanical assemblies. Applied across fasteners, fittings, studs, nuts, and adjustment points after correct positioning or torqueing, the material forms a brittle, highly visible seal that cracks when movement occurs. It is widely used in aerospace, automotive, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, and quality assurance applications where visual verification of component integrity is required.

    Key Technical Characteristics

    • Product Type: Tamper-proofing and visual inspection paste
    • Technology: Solvent-based
    • Appearance: Blue high-viscosity paste
    • Odor: Xylene
    • Specific Gravity: 1.4
    • Viscosity: 90,000-120,000 mPas (cP)
    • Surface Dry Time: 60-120 seconds
    • Recommended Application Temperature: 15°C to 25°C
    • Operating Temperature Range: -35°C to +145°C

    • Non-corrosive to metallic substrates
    • Easy visual inspection during maintenance and service checks
    • Helps verify proper assembly positioning and torque settings
    • Simple application without special equipment
    • Suitable for quality control and maintenance monitoring programs

    Typical Applications

    • Aircraft maintenance inspections
    • Fastener and torque verification programs
    • Compression fittings
    • Studs and nuts
    • Mechanical adjustment points
    • Industrial equipment assembly
    • Manufacturing quality assurance processes
    • Maintenance tamper-evidence marking

    Material Engineering & Design Features

LOCTITE® SF 7414 is formulated as a high-viscosity marking paste that dries rapidly to form a brittle visual seal across assembled components. Once dried, any movement, loosening, vibration-induced displacement, or unauthorized adjustment causes the indicator stripe to crack, providing immediate visual evidence during inspection.

The product demonstrates excellent adhesion and compatibility with numerous engineering materials, including:

    • Aluminum
    • Magnesium
    • Titanium
    • Stainless Steel
    • Copper

The formulation is specifically engineered to provide tamper detection without promoting corrosion on sensitive aerospace and industrial alloys.

    Installation & Handling

    • Apply after components have been correctly adjusted or torqued
    • Dispense a narrow bead across the interface between adjacent parts
    • Allow approximately 1-2 minutes for surface drying
    • The material becomes increasingly brittle as drying progresses
    • Inspect periodically for cracks or disruptions indicating movement
    • Reseal container immediately after use to prevent premature drying
    • Higher ambient temperatures may reduce drying time

    Environmental & Compliance Notes

    • Flammable solvent-based product
    • Store in a dry, well-ventilated location
    • Keep away from oxidizing agents and combustible materials
    • Recommended storage temperature: 8°C to 21°C
    • Avoid storage below 8°C or above 21°C
    • Refer to the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before handling
    • Not recommended for pure oxygen or oxygen-enriched systems
    • Not intended for use as a sealing compound

    Key Advantages

    • Provides clear visual evidence of component movement or tampering
    • Fast-drying formulation improves manufacturing efficiency
    • Excellent adhesion to aerospace and industrial metals
    • Non-corrosive performance on sensitive alloys
    • Supports maintenance, inspection, and quality assurance programs
    • Easy application without specialized equipment
    • Reliable performance across a wide operating temperature range
    • Widely used for assembly verification and maintenance monitoring
