Surface Preparation & Compatibility
- Primarily used on aluminium alloys treated with:
- Alodine 1200: Cr6 conversion coating
- CAA: Chromic Acid Anodising
- TSA: Tartaric Sulphuric Anodising
- BAA: Boric Acid Anodising
- Observe recoating time between surface treatment and primer application
- Compatibility with alternative metallic structures, treatments, or coatings should be confirmed with the manufacturer
Mixing & Application
- Mixing Ratio by Weight: Base 100 / Hardener 58 / Thinner 30 to 60
- Mixing Ratio by Volume: Base 1 V / Hardener 1 V / Thinner 0.3 V to 0.6 V
- Store unmixed components between 18°C and 25°C for 24 hours before use
- Mix A530 primer base for 10 minutes using pneumatic or oscillating mixer
- Mix base and hardener until homogeneous
- Add Thinner E in two stages
- Application mixture temperature: 15°C to 35°C
- Recommended filtration: 120-150 µm filter
Application Equipment
- Gravity compressed air or suction spray gun
- Nozzle size: 1.2 mm to 1.8 mm
- Electrostatic spray gun compatible
- Nozzle size: 1.2 mm to 1.8 mm
- Spray using clean, dry, oil-free air
Spray Parameters
- Spraying Viscosity at 20°C:
- CA 4 Cup: 14 to 16 seconds
- CA 2.5 Cup: 40 to 60 seconds
- Relative Humidity: 30 % to 75 %
- Recommended Dynamic Air Pressure: 1.5 bar to 4 bar (22 to 58 psi)
- Number of Coats: Dependent on component size and geometry
Drying & Curing
- Recoatable at 23°C: 4 hours to 72 hours
- Recoatable at 60°C: 1 hour to 24 hours
- Fully Cured: 7 days
- Allow 30 minutes flash-off at room temperature before oven drying
- Drying times based on 20 µm dry film thickness
Defect Correction Guidance
- If recoating time is exceeded, reactivate surface using Scotch-Brite
- For micro-bubbles, runs, rejects, or inclusions:
- Reactivate surface using abrasive paper grade 220 to 320
- Remove dust and clean with approved cleaning product
- Apply a thin coat of AEROPRIM 530 to achieve required thickness
- For significant defects, remove primer using approved chemical paint remover or plastic media
- Repeat surface treatment where required
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean application equipment using suitable cleaning thinner such as P
- Ensure spray equipment is free from contamination before reuse
Packaging & Storage
- AEROPRIM 530 Base:
- 1 L and 5 L packaging for Sand Yellow
- 2 L packaging for other colours
- AEROPRIM 530 Hardener: 1 L and 5 L
