    Information

    Araldite® DBF Resin / Aradur® HY 951 Hardener

    Overview

Araldite® DBF Resin used with Aradur® HY 951 Hardener is a low-viscosity, unfilled epoxy casting system developed by Huntsman Advanced Materials for encapsulating and potting low-voltage electrical and electronic components. Designed for room-temperature curing with optional accelerated heat curing, the system provides excellent electrical insulation, good mechanical strength, and resistance to atmospheric and chemical degradation. Its low viscosity also allows high filler loading, making it suitable for larger castings requiring improved thermal management.

    Approvals & Specifications

    • Manufactured by Huntsman Advanced Materials
    • Produced under ISO 9000 quality management system
    • Designed for electrical encapsulation and potting applications

    Typical Applications

    • Potting of low-voltage electrical components
    • Encapsulation of electronic assemblies
    • Transformer and coil encapsulation
    • Electrical insulation systems
    • Vacuum casting applications
    • Industrial electrical component manufacturing
    • General-purpose epoxy casting requiring excellent dielectric performance

    Key Features & Benefits

    • Low viscosity enables easy casting and vacuum impregnation.
    • Accepts high filler loading for large castings.
    • Excellent electrical insulation properties.
    • Good mechanical strength after curing.
    • Good resistance to atmospheric ageing and chemical attack.
    • Room-temperature curing with optional accelerated heat cure.
    • Suitable for both manual and automated vacuum casting processes.
    • Produces durable encapsulation for electrical and electronic equipment.

    Application Guidelines

    • Mix 100 parts resin with 10 parts hardener by weight (100:12 by volume).
    • Add the hardener to the resin and mix thoroughly until completely homogeneous.
    • Where possible, mix under vacuum or deaerate the mixture to minimise entrapped air.
    • For castings exceeding approximately 500 g, incorporate suitable mineral fillers to reduce exotherm.
    • Small castings or thin sections may require post-curing at 40-60°C to achieve complete cure.
    • Validate curing schedules for thick castings to avoid excessive exothermic temperatures.

    Compatibility & Limitations

    • Suitable for encapsulating electrical and electronic components.
    • Compatible with conventional casting and vacuum casting equipment.
    • Large castings should incorporate fillers to improve heat dissipation.
    • Thin castings may require supplemental heating for full cure.
    • Store components in tightly sealed original containers in a dry environment at room temperature.

    Packaging & Procurement

    • Supplied as separate resin and hardener components
    • Resin: Araldite® DBF
    • Hardener: Aradur® HY 951
    • Shelf life is determined by the expiry date shown on the product label
    • Available through Huntsman Advanced Materials distributors

Why This Product is Chosen for AOG / MRO

    • Provides reliable encapsulation and protection for electrical assemblies.
    • Excellent dielectric performance helps improve component reliability.
    • Low viscosity simplifies casting of complex assemblies.
    • Flexible curing schedules accommodate workshop and production requirements.
    • High filler capability supports larger repair and manufacturing projects.

Practical Suggestions for Your Team (AOG Mindset)

    • Degas the mixed resin whenever possible to eliminate trapped air.
    • Use mineral fillers when casting larger components to minimise heat build-up.
    • Monitor exotherm carefully during thick-section casting.
    • Keep containers tightly sealed to prevent contamination.
    • Wear appropriate PPE and provide adequate workshop ventilation during mixing and curing.
