    Information

    Cadmium No-Bake 2023 Plating Solution

    Overview

Cadmium No-Bake 2023 is a brush electroplating solution developed by SIFCO Process® for applying cadmium deposits without the need for post-plating hydrogen embrittlement relief baking. Designed for aircraft repair, maintenance and selective plating operations, it produces a medium-grey, matte cadmium coating with excellent process consistency across a wide operating range. The solution is particularly suited to touch-up repairs on aerospace components and can be used in accordance with major aerospace specifications where approved procedures are followed.

    Approvals & Specifications

    • Boeing BAC 5854
    • Douglas PS 11311
    • Compatible with SIFCO Process® selective plating procedures

    Typical Applications

    • Selective cadmium plating repairs on aircraft components
    • Touch-up of vacuum deposited cadmium (Vac-Cad) coatings
    • Repair of steel, cast iron and nickel alloy components
    • Maintenance plating of aerospace hardware
    • Corrosion protection of aircraft components
    • Localised brush electroplating during MRO operations

    Key Features & Benefits

    • No post-bake process required under approved conditions.
    • Produces a consistent medium-grey matte cadmium finish.
    • Constant factor plating solution provides predictable deposition rates.
    • Operates effectively at room temperature without requiring solution heating.
    • Easy to use for selective brush plating repairs.
    • Suitable for aerospace maintenance and overhaul applications.
    • Compatible with approved cadmium conversion coating systems.
    • Long shelf life supports maintenance inventory management.

    Application Guidelines

    • Degrease the repair area using a residue-free solvent.
    • Abrade the surface using 120-grit aluminium oxide paper or approved blasting media where specified.
    • Rinse thoroughly with deionised water and dry before plating.
    • Electroclean high-strength steels using the recommended SIFCO Process® cleaning solution where required.
    • Begin plating at 6 V and increase gradually until slight burning is observed, then reduce by approximately 1 V for optimum deposition.
    • When repairing vacuum deposited cadmium coatings, remove spilled solution immediately to prevent chemical attack.

    Compatibility & Limitations

    • Suitable for aluminium, steel, cast iron, nickel alloys, stainless steel and zinc alloys with appropriate preplate preparation.
    • For hydrogen embrittlement-sensitive materials, follow applicable aerospace specifications.
    • Do not reuse solution where prohibited by manufacturer or aerospace specifications.
    • Excessive current density produces dark grey or black burned deposits.
    • Conversion coatings may be applied after plating where required.

    Packaging & Procurement

    • Available through SIFCO Process® distribution network
    • Recommended shelf life: 4 years
    • Suitable for use with approved SIFCO Process® brush plating equipment and cover materials
