Anhydrous citric acid is widely used in aerospace maintenance because it is a relatively mild, nonhazardous acid compared to strong mineral acids. In MRO, it can be used to neutralise residues from alkaline cleaning agents, gently remove light surface oxides, or as part of a passivation chemistry for alloys.
