    Information

Hysol® EA 9309.2NA Epoxy Paste Adhesive

    Overview

Hysol® EA 9309.2NA is a two-part epoxy paste adhesive designed for structural aerospace bonding applications including metal skins and honeycomb core assemblies. This non-asbestos formulation provides high shear strength, high peel strength, and durable flexible bond lines that resist humidity, water, and many common aerospace fluids. The adhesive cures at room temperature or through accelerated heat curing and is widely used where strong aluminum bonding performance is required.

    Key Technical Characteristics

    • Product Type: Two-part epoxy paste adhesive
    • Color:
      • Part A: Off-white paste
      • Part B: Blue liquid curing agent
      • Mixed: Blue
    • Mix Ratio by Weight: 100:22 (Part A : Part B)
    • Pot Life (450 g mass): Minimum 30 minutes
    • Shelf Life: 12 months at temperatures below 25°C (77°F)
    • Service Temperature: Approximately 82°C (180°F)
    • Tensile Lap Shear Strength:
      • 31.7 MPa (4,600 psi) at -55°C (-67°F)
      • 37.2 MPa (5,400 psi) at 25°C (77°F)
      • 6.9 MPa (1,000 psi) at 82°C (180°F)
    • T-Peel Strength: 178 N/25 mm (40 lb/in) at 25°C (77°F)

    Core Performance Benefits

    • High structural shear strength for aerospace assemblies
    • Excellent peel resistance on aluminum substrates
    • Flexible bond line capable of absorbing stress and vibration
    • Resistant to humidity, water, and many common aerospace fluids
    • Room-temperature storage with convenient two-part mixing system
    • Suitable for bonding metal skins and honeycomb core structures

    Typical Applications

    • Aircraft honeycomb sandwich panel assembly
    • Bonding aluminum skins to honeycomb core
    • Structural aerospace metal bonding
    • Aircraft interior and secondary structural components
    • Repair and maintenance bonding operations
    • General aerospace composite and metallic assemblies requiring high-strength adhesive bonding

    Material Engineering & Design Features

Hysol® EA 9309.2NA is formulated as a toughened epoxy adhesive system that develops high shear and peel strength while maintaining flexibility after cure. The cured adhesive is engineered to withstand environmental exposure, moisture, and operational stresses commonly encountered in aerospace structures.

    Typical cured bulk properties include:

    • Tensile Strength: 37.9 MPa (5,500 psi)
    • Tensile Modulus: 2,343 MPa (340 ksi)
    • Elongation at Break: 4.8%
    • Shore D Hardness: 80
    • Glass Transition Temperature (Dry): 79°C (174°F)
    • Glass Transition Temperature (Wet): 59°C (138°F)
    • Compressive Strength: 53 MPa (7,700 psi)
    • Compressive Modulus: 1,502 MPa (218 ksi)

    Installation & Handling

    • Mix Part A and Part B thoroughly at the specified 100:22 weight ratio
    • Complete mixing is essential for optimum performance
    • Do not mix quantities greater than 450 grams due to excessive exothermic heat generation
    • Apply to clean, dry, properly prepared bonding surfaces
    • Handling strength develops after approximately 24 hours at 25°C (77°F)
    • Full room-temperature cure achieved after 5 days at 25°C (77°F)
    • Accelerated cure option: 1 hour at 82°C (180°F)
    • Remove uncured adhesive using denatured alcohol or approved industrial solvents

    Environmental & Compliance Notes

    • Non-asbestos formulation
    • For industrial use only
    • Use with adequate ventilation
    • Avoid contact with skin and eyes
    • Part A contains epoxy resins
    • Part B contains amine curing agents
    • Review applicable Safety Data Sheet (SDS/MSDS) before use
    • Empty containers may retain hazardous residues and vapors

    Key Advantages for Aerospace Use

    • High-strength structural bonding capability
    • Excellent performance on aluminum aerospace substrates
    • Strong combination of shear and peel strength
