Information
Araldite® DBF Resin / Aradur® HY 951 Hardener
Overview
Araldite® DBF Resin used with Aradur® HY 951 Hardener is a low-viscosity, unfilled epoxy casting system developed by Huntsman Advanced Materials for encapsulating and potting low-voltage electrical and electronic components. Designed for room-temperature curing with the option for accelerated heat curing, the system offers excellent electrical insulation, strong mechanical properties and good resistance to atmospheric and chemical degradation. Its low viscosity also allows high filler loading for larger castings requiring improved thermal management.

Approvals & Specifications
- Manufactured by Huntsman Advanced Materials
- ISO 9000 approved manufacturing system
- Designed for encapsulation and potting of electrical and electronic components
Typical Applications
- Potting of low-voltage electrical assemblies
- Encapsulation of electronic components
- Electrical insulation systems
- Transformer and coil encapsulation
- Vacuum casting applications
- Industrial electrical component manufacturing
- General epoxy casting requiring excellent dielectric properties
Key Features & Benefits
- Low viscosity allows easy casting and vacuum impregnation.
- Accepts high filler loading for larger castings.
- Excellent electrical insulation properties.
- Good mechanical strength after curing.
- Good resistance to atmospheric ageing and chemical attack.
- Room-temperature curing with optional accelerated heat cure.
- Suitable for both manual and vacuum casting processes.
- Produces durable encapsulation for electrical assemblies.
Application Guidelines
- Mix 100 parts resin with 10 parts hardener by weight (100:12 by volume).
- Add the hardener to the resin and mix thoroughly until homogeneous.
- Where possible, mix under vacuum or deaerate the mixture to minimise trapped air.
- Use mineral fillers for castings larger than approximately 500 g to reduce exotherm.
- Thin sections may require post-heating at 40-60°C to achieve complete cure.
- Avoid excessive exotherm when casting thick sections by validating the curing schedule.
Compatibility & Limitations
- Suitable for encapsulating electrical and electronic components.
- Compatible with conventional casting and vacuum casting equipment.
- Large castings should incorporate mineral fillers to control curing temperatures.
- Very small castings may require additional heating to achieve full cure.
- Store components in tightly sealed original containers in a dry environment at room temperature.
Packaging & Procurement
- Supplied as separate resin and hardener components
- Resin: Araldite® DBF
- Hardener: Aradur® HY 951
- Shelf life corresponds to the expiry date shown on the original container
- Available through Huntsman Advanced Materials distributors
