The 3M?Scotch?Weld?DP8405NS is a high?performance, two part toughened acrylic adhesive designed for aerospace structural applications. Supplied in a 45 mL cartridge (~1.52?US?oz) with a 10:1 mix ratio (by volume) and fast cure: typical open time ~3 min, set time ~14?16 min at ~22?°C (≈72 °F), structural strength in ~18?20 min. It contains glass beads (~0.010″ diameter) to control bond line thickness. Measured mixed density ~1.03?g/cm³, viscosity ~60,000 cP at 23 °C (~73 °F). It achieves overlap shear strength ~7.6 MPa (1100 lb/in²) on ABS at 23 °C after 24 h. The temperature performance band indicates suitability for many aerospace service conditions, for example, cured overlap shear values at –40 °F (≈ –40 °C) and 180 °F (~82 °C) show ~2,600–3,800 psi (~17.9–26.2 MPa) on aluminium. The product is widely used where fast assembly, high strength bonding, bonding of plastics and metals with oily surfaces are required. Its good impact, peel and shear performance and aerospace appropriate testing (e.g., test methods per ASTM) make it suitable for commercial and defence aircraft structural bonding environments.
