Overview
The JetFlex Aircraft Interior Finish is a two-component solvent-based polyurethane enamel engineered for finishing and refinishing plastic and metal aircraft interior components. Commonly used in cabin and cockpit surface protection, this aerospace-grade coating is trusted by MRO teams and manufacturing operations for its durability, lightweight film performance, and aesthetic consistency. Designed and manufactured by Sherwin–Williams Aerospace Coatings, this system helps maintain regulatory and performance integrity across interior aircraft surfaces.
Key Technical Specs for JetFlex Aircraft Interior Finish
- Type: Two-component solvent-based polyurethane enamel aerospace coating
- Size / Volume: Available in bulk color component, catalyst, and reducer packaging
- Color: L- and E-series interior aviation colors
- Viscosity / Consistency: Sprayable viscosity approximately 20–24 seconds (Gardner #2 Zahn Cup)
- Cure / Working Time: Usable pot life up to 16 hours at 77°F / 25°C
- Film Thickness: 0.8–1.2 mils (20–30 microns) dry film; 4–6 mils (100–150 microns) wet film
- Coverage Rate: Approximately 432 sq. ft./gal (10.6 m²/L) per dry mil for white formulations
- VOC Content: Less than 6.1 lbs./gal (730 g/L) admixed
- Service Temperature: Must be cured below substrate heat distortion temperature; application recommended above 55°F / 13°C during processing
- Typical Uses: Cabin panels, cockpit interior hardware, composite trim, seating structures, and texture finish systems
Approvals & Specifications
- Complies with Boeing BMS 10-83D Type II and Type III aerospace coating performance standards
- Designed for aircraft interior flammability performance requirements such as FAR/JAR 25.853 substrate verification testing
- Qualified for plastic and metal cabin interior surface systems when applied with approved primers
Typical Aircraft MRO / AOG Applications
- Interior cabin wall panel refurbishment
- Cockpit control surface and console coating repair
- Composite and plastic seating surface finishing
- Aircraft galley and trim component protection
- Texture or low-gloss interior restoration work
- Maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) repaint operations
Compatibility & Safety Notes
- Compatible substrates include properly cleaned plastic composites and treated metal surfaces
- Surface preparation must remove grease, mold release agents, rust, fingerprints, and contaminants
- Isopropyl alcohol or approved solvent cleaners are recommended for plastic cleaning
- Use JetFlex Primer CM0480930 or JetFlex WR Spray Fil CM0481505 when adhesion enhancement is required
- Recommended personal protective equipment (PPE) should be used during mixing and spray application
Packaging & Procurement
- Supplied as color component, catalyst (CM0981520), and reducer (CM0110845)
- Mixing ratio: 7 parts color component : 1 part catalyst
- Reducer addition: Approximately 2–4 parts of 25–50% reducer solution for viscosity adjustment
- Strain and filter admixed material prior to spray application
- Cool, dry storage is required to maintain material stability
Why JetFlex Aircraft Interior Finish is Chosen for AOG / MRO
- Rapid drying cycle supports aircraft downtime reduction
- High coverage efficiency lowers material consumption
- Flexible application using HVLP, air spray, or electrostatic spray systems
- Stable gloss and color performance for professional cabin appearance
- Long pot life enables large-scale interior refinishing operations
Practical Suggestions for Your Team (AOG Mindset)
- Maintain substrate temperature above 55°F / 13°C before and during coating application
- Always air-blow and tack-wipe surfaces before spraying
- Ground aircraft properly to minimize static buildup during spray operations
- Test coating system compatibility on each substrate type before full production use
- Filter mixed coating material before loading spray equipment
