Overview
AkzoNobel TOPCOAT FRS40 METALLIC is a three-component solvent-borne polyurethane metallic effect topcoat developed for aircraft interior applications. It provides durable decorative metallic finishes and is designed for use over FRS30 or FR4-45 surfacers. The coating can also be protected with 1500-FR or 1500-HD clear varnishes for enhanced appearance and durability.

Surface Preparation
- Recommended over FRS30 or FR4-45 surfacer systems
- Composite substrates should be sanded using P240–P400 abrasive paper
- Plastic substrates should be sanded using P240–P400 abrasive paper
- Clean prepared surfaces using isopropyl alcohol or Essence F
- For aluminium, apply over approved surface treatment and F69 epoxy primer
- F69 primer should cure for at least 1 hour at 60°C before applying FRS40
- Before applying varnish, allow FRS40 Metallic to dry for 1 hour at room temperature
Mixing & Application
- Mix Ratio by Weight: Base 100 / Hardener 10 / Thinner 10–20
- Recommended storage before mixing: 18°C to 25°C for 24 hours
- Homogenise base using gyroscopic or mechanical mixer for 10 minutes
- Verify there is no pigment settling before use
- Allow 30 minutes after homogenisation for viscosity stabilisation
- Mix by weight for best accuracy
- Application Temperature: 15°C to 35°C
- Recommended filter size: 150–190 µm
