Overview
DeSoto® 513X377 Exterior Epoxy Primer is a urethane-compatible aerospace epoxy primer formulated to protect aluminum and composite substrates against corrosion. Designed for exterior aircraft applications, it delivers excellent adhesion, Skydrol® resistance, and compatibility with a wide range of aerospace polyurethane topcoats. The primer can be applied using conventional, HVLP, airless, and electrostatic spray equipment while maintaining performance across diverse environmental conditions.

Material Engineering & Design Features
DeSoto® 513X377 is engineered as a high-performance exterior epoxy primer that combines corrosion resistance with strong substrate adhesion and hydraulic fluid resistance. The formulation is optimized for compatibility with modern aerospace polyurethane coatings while supporting multiple spray application technologies.
The primer is qualified to numerous aerospace specifications, including:
- BAMS 565-008 Grade A Type II
- BMS 10-79 Type II Class B Grade A
- CMS-CT-201 Class A & B Grade A
- MEP 10-060 Type I & II Class B
- SMS 111204 Type I Class 1 Form 1
- I.C.TO-37.03
It is also compatible with a broad range of aerospace topcoat specifications including AMS 3095, BAC 5312, BMS, DMS, CMS, RMS, and SMS-approved coating systems.
Installation & Handling
- Thoroughly shake the base component before mixing
- Add activator to the base component and mix thoroughly
- Add thinner while maintaining agitation
- Continue agitation for approximately 10 minutes
- Condition materials for 24 hours between 13°C and 35°C (55°F and 95°F) before mixing
- Induction Time Requirements:
- 1 hour at 13-21°C (55-70°F)
- 30 minutes at 22-28°C (71-84°F)
- No induction required above 29°C (85°F)
- Recommended application conditions:
- Temperature: 15-30°C (59-86°F)
- Relative Humidity: 20-90%
- Apply one medium coat with approximately 50% overlap
- Suitable for electrostatic, electrostatic air-assisted airless, HVLP, and conventional spray equipment

- Store unopened containers between 5°C and 35°C (41°F and 95°F)
- Shelf Life:
- 12 months for most OEM specifications
- 24 months under PRC-DeSoto standard requirements
