    Information

    SILASTIC™ RTV-3110 Mold-Making Base

    Overview

SILASTIC™ RTV-3110 Mold-Making Base is a two-part condensation-cure RTV silicone rubber developed by Dow for general-purpose mould making, electronic encapsulation and potting applications. Featuring a low mixed viscosity and adjustable cure times through the selection of compatible catalysts, RTV-3110 accurately reproduces intricate surface details while curing at room temperature into a durable, flexible silicone rubber. Unlike higher-viscosity grades, RTV-3110 can often be used without vacuum de-airing, making it ideal for fast, uncomplicated mould production.

    Approvals & Specifications

    • Manufactured by Dow
    • Tested to ASTM D150, ASTM D149 and ASTM D257 electrical property standards
    • Suitable for mould making, electronic encapsulation and conformal coating applications

    Typical Applications

    • General-purpose silicone mould making
    • Prototype and production tooling
    • Electronic potting and encapsulation
    • Conformal coating of electronic assemblies
    • Precision casting requiring fine detail reproduction
    • Simple moulds with minimal undercuts

    Compatibility & Safety Notes

    • RTV-3110 may be used without vacuum de-airing for many applications due to its low viscosity
    • Vacuum de-airing is recommended where maximum detail reproduction or void-free moulds are required
    • Do not use SILASTIC™ RTV-3010-S or RTV-3000 F Catalyst when moulding polyester resins, as cure inhibition may occur; use DOWSIL™ 4 Catalyst instead
    • Mix thoroughly but avoid excessive mixing or temperatures above 35°C
    • Store unopened containers at or below 32°C
    • Consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before handling and use appropriate personal protective equipment

    Packaging & Procurement

    • SILASTIC™ RTV-3110 Mold-Making Base
    • SILASTIC™ RTV-3010-S Catalyst
    • SILASTIC™ RTV-3000 F Catalyst
    • DOWSIL™ 4 Catalyst
    • Supplied as a two-component RTV silicone mould-making system

Why This Product is Chosen for AOG / MRO

    • Low viscosity allows easy pouring and accurate reproduction of complex components
    • Adjustable cure rates provide flexibility for different repair and tooling requirements
    • Wide operating temperature range supports demanding aerospace environments
    • Can often be used without vacuum de-airing, reducing preparation time
    • Suitable for both mould making and electronic encapsulation tasks
    • Produces durable, flexible moulds with excellent dimensional accuracy

Practical Suggestions for Your Team (AOG Mindset)

    • Use the standard 10:1 mix ratio with RTV-3010-S Catalyst for predictable curing and mechanical properties
    • Select DOWSIL™ 4 Catalyst when producing polyester moulds to prevent cure inhibition
    • Brush a thin initial coat onto intricate masters before pouring the bulk material to minimise trapped air
    • Although vacuum de-airing is often unnecessary, use it for highly detailed or critical moulds where void-free casting is essential
    • Allow approximately seven days for the silicone to reach its full mechanical properties before demanding service
