Information
3M™ Tape Primer 94
Overview
3M™ Tape Primer 94 is an adhesion-promoting primer designed to improve the bond strength of 3M pressure-sensitive tapes on a wide range of difficult-to-bond substrates. Commonly used in aerospace, transportation, industrial manufacturing, construction, and assembly applications, it enhances tape adhesion on plastics, metals, painted surfaces, glass, wood, and concrete. The primer forms a thin, uniform coating that promotes reliable tape performance while maintaining ease of application.

Material Engineering & Design Features
3M™ Tape Primer 94 is formulated to increase surface energy and improve adhesive wet-out on substrates that can otherwise present adhesion challenges. The primer creates a thin bonding layer that allows pressure-sensitive adhesives to develop stronger and more durable bonds.
The primer is suitable for use on a wide range of materials including:
- Polyethylene (PE)
- Polypropylene (PP)
- ABS
- PET/PBT blends
- Glass
- Wood
- Concrete
- Metal
- Painted metal surfaces
The low-viscosity formulation enables uniform coverage while minimizing material usage and supporting efficient application processes.
Installation & Handling
- Ensure surfaces are clean and dry before application
- Clean contaminated surfaces using a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water
- Shake thoroughly before use
- Apply a thin, uniform coating using the minimum amount necessary for complete coverage
- Allow primer to dry completely before tape application
- Typical drying time is approximately 5 minutes at room temperature
- Porous substrates may require a second coat for optimal adhesion
- Allow the first coat to dry before applying a second application
- Keep primed surfaces free from contamination before tape installation
- Remove excess primer with isopropyl alcohol if required
Environmental & Compliance Notes
- Store in original sealed container
- Recommended storage temperature: 15°C to 27°C
- Shelf Life: 18 months from date of manufacture
- Transfer only small quantities into work containers during use
- Keep containers tightly sealed to prevent solvent evaporation
- Refer to applicable Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use
- Designed for industrial applications
